COMBO+ held its final evaluation workshop in Nosy Be, Madagascar, during the last week of September. It was hosted by the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development, and brought together COMBO+’s donors, country teams and technical assistants, representatives of host governments Madagascar, Mozambique, Uganda, and Guinea, and members of the COMBO+ international team. This was an opportunity to showcase some of the achievements and outputs across the countries during the second phase of COMBO+ (2021-2025), to share experiences and exchange knowledge about implementing best practice in the mitigation hierarchy across the countries, to reflect on challenges and - on a country by country basis - discuss future activities and plans. Participants also got an insight into one of the case studies investigated as part of COMBO+ which looked at practical implementation of mitigation measures in the field: on the last day, we visited restoration sites tended by local community associations who are supported as part of Ravinala airport’s compensation activities. This also offered a chance to visit Mont Passot with its vast views across the island. A warm thank you to our Malagasy hosts and collaborators and to the Madagascar team for organizing a fantastic meeting ahead of wrapping up COMBO+ by the end of 2025.
